Introduction and Purpose
The purpose of the course in statistics is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. This course involves the study of four main areas: exploratory analysis; planning a study; probability; and statistical inference.Students entering this course are expected to have mathematical maturity and quantitative reasoning ability. This course lends itself naturally to a mode of teaching that engages students in constructing their own knowledge. Important components of the course should include the use of technology, projects and laboratories, cooperative group problem-solving, and writing, asa part of concept-orientated instruction and assessment.
