Since Hunter Academies is a completely virtual platform, we highly suggest implementing our program with a blended learning mindset. Teachers and students can use the opportunities afforded by technology to improve the learning experience. In addition blended learning makes assessments for learning and visible learning possible.
Here are highly effective and efficient methods for implementation:
The first method is the flipped classroom. This type of model flips the traditional delivery of content and provides more meaningful classroom activities and engaging discussions. In this case the teacher would send home content that is at a recall and concept level through a virtual platform.
The teacher’s expectation for the student would be to acquire a basic understanding of the content. Upon arrival to class, either virtual or in person, the students would engage in activities that promote strategic and extending thinking skills. The major purpose of the flipped classroom is to effectively use class time with the teacher for deeper depths of knowledge to be obtained.
The second method is the laboratory model. The laboratory model provides students with the opportunity to work on a variety of skill based learning. The learning can be differentiated for specific student needs. The majority of this learning is student led and directed. Therefore, the student works at a pace that fits their learning process. Lastly, instead of a “traditional” teacher, a teacher facilitator is used in this laboratory to provide assistance and support for immediate feedback that the virtual platform may not be able to provide in that specific moment. Thus, the teacher facilitator is an essential part of laboratory model.
The third model is the rotational model. The rotation model allows students to work through a variety of centers/stations, including, teacher-led instruction, collaborative activities, and online instruction. The students physically rotate between different stations on a fixed or timed schedule. This model promotes active learning and engagement in more challenging material that may have not been introduced. The instructionally flexibility is endless.
